Read in March 2017

As this month was so hectic I didn't really get to read much which is sad. I only managed two books. I've nearly finished my third but didn't quite make it in time for my March post. I'm hoping I can read a few more in April though as my to read pile is huge. So many good books, so little time.

Blogosphere Magazine

Okay so this isn't a book but I did read it and it bulks out my post nicely. If you haven't picked up one of these magazines yet you need to. This is my third blogosphere magazine and I am obsessed. When my subscription ends I will definitely be renewing. It is the bulkiest and most gorgeous magazine I have ever seen. It looks and feels so luxurious whilst being packed with beautiful pictures and interesting articles. It motivates and inspires me whilst allowing me to discover new bloggers to follow. You honestly need this in your life. Plus how stunning is that cover?

The Caller by Chris Carter

"After a tough week, Tanya Kaitlin is looking forward to a relaxing night in, but as she steps out of her shower, she hears her phone ring.  The video call request comes from her best friend, Karen Ward.  Tanya takes the call and the nightmare begins.

Karen is gagged and bound to a chair in her own living room.  If Tanya disconnects from the call, if she looks away from the camera, he will come after her next, the deep, raspy, demonic voice at the other end of the line promises her.

As Hunter and Garcia investigate the threats, they are thrown into a rollercoaster of evil, chasing a predator who scouts the streets and social media networks for victims, taunting them with secret messages and feeding on their fear."

Chris Carter is one of my favourite crime thriller authors. I have read all of the Robert Hunter series so when I saw this on amazon I actually pre ordered it because I couldn't wait. It's safe to say these books are not for the faint hearted. I sometimes question why I enjoy reading these so much because the murders are so detailed and gruesome. If you are squeamish then these are not for you. The Caller is about a serial killer who finds his victims through social media which just adds to the scare factor. He then video calls someone close to the victim and makes them watch. Pretty sick. The story kept me gripped until the end and I could not put it down. I love the friendship between Hunter and his partner Garcia and there characters are always so well written. I did find it ended pretty quickly but I hadn't guessed who it was which is always a bonus.

If you are looking for a gritty series that doesn't disappoint I definitely recommend Chris Carter.

The Wolf Children by Cay Rademacher*

"Hamburg 1947: It is the year of extremes

After a bitterly cold winter of starvation, the bombed city groans under excruciating heat. Chief Inspector Frank Stave is confronted with a new case, the body of a young boy, in the ruins of Hamburg's shipyard.

As Stave, and Lieutenant James Macdonald, a liason officer seconded by the British military occupying the city, begin their investigation, they encounter the hordes of 'wolf children living in Hamburg. Orphaned during the war , and having fled the Occupied Eastern Territories, the wolf children have united in gangs and pervade the Hamburg black market.

When two further bodies are discovered, Stave is under ever increasing pressure as he struggles to keep his personal life together too..."

I did a full review on this so I'll be brief here. I really enjoyed this book. If you love history and murder who done it type books then this one is for you. I was worried I would be bored with the history side but it was really interesting and didn't distract from the murder storyline. The author creates an amazing atmosphere and describes everything so beautifully. I felt like I was there with him.
