Favourite Books of 2019

In usual Beth style, this post is extremely late. However, it is perfect timing if you are looking for something to read during the lockdown. All of these books bar one are crime thrillers so if you are looking for gruesome murder to distract you then I highly recommend checking these out.

When Emily gets the crush of her life she soon starts questioning herself and falling into the trap of wanting to change everything about herself.

Dead Souls by Angela Marsons - Full Review - Bones showing signs of horrific torture are found during an archaeological dig. There is also a spate of terrifying hate crimes adding pressure on the police as well as putting one of them in danger.

Hold My Hand by M.J Ford - The remains of a child are found and Josie needs to know if it's the young boy she saw being lead away from the fair by a clown 30 years ago. Then to add to the pressure another child goes missing.

The Last Widow by Karin Slaughter - Full Review - A scientist from the CDC is abducted and vanishes into thin air. A month later 2 bombs are detonated in one of Atlanta's busiest neighbourhoods. Degrees of Guilt by HS Chandler*- Full Review - Maria is on trial for attempted murder. She confessed to the crime and admits she wanted him dead. But was it self defence? Lottie is on the jury and in charge of Maria's fate when she embarks on an illicit affair. You think you know who is guilty and who is innocent but you’re probably wrong.

Her Last Whisper by Jennifer Chase* - Katie Scott’s cold case gets a lot more interesting when her kidnap victim turns up dead. Katie is convinced that there is a pattern of women going missing & then showing up dead in remote locations. When another woman goes missing the pressure is on to find her before it’s too late.

The Secret Child by Caroline Mitchell* - Full Review - When Nicole’s 4 year old daughter is kidnapped she receives 4 phials instead of a ransom. One is poisoned, three are safe. If she drinks one her daughters location will be revealed. To add more mystery the kidnapper is supposed to be dead. DI Amy Winter is desperate to save the kidnapped child, especially as she failed to save the children her serial killer parents murdered when she was just a child herself.

All His Pretty Girls by Charly Cox* - A badly beaten woman is found in the middle of nowhere barely clinging to life. Once Detective Alyssa Wyatt is on the case she soon finds a string of murdered women who bear a striking resemblance to her. The killer has his sights on her and won’t stop until he has wreaked revenge on her and her family.

Cold Heart Creek by Lisa Regan* - When the bodies of two campers are found Josie is convinced it is more than an accidental poisoning. The presence of a necklace stuffed in the throat of one of the bodies confirms this. A 3rd sleeping bag suggests there was an extra person camping but are they a missing victim or a killer. The investigation leads them to a suspicious farm deep in the woods where people go to escape which throws up more questions than answers.

The Murder House by Michael Wood* - The morning after the wedding the brides family are brutally murdered. Forensics point to a burglar on the run but someone is messing with the evidence and Matilda is not convinced.

Little Boy Lost by J.P Carter* - 10 year old Jacob disappears on the short walk home from school. Days later, when London is overcome with riots, his body is found in a burned out building. Many people had grudges against his father but did any of them hate him enough to kidnap his child?
