2023 Romance Favourites

Okay, so I started off well with not posting these too late and then I got distracted. So here is my favourite romance reads of 2023. It's only really been the last 2 years that I've started reading romance again and I have to say I am thoroughly enjoying myself. I obviously still love a good thriller though and you can see my 2023 favourite crime thrillers here

2023 Crime Thriller Favourites

It may still be slightly late but it's a hell of a lot earlier than my 2022 favourite books post. 2023 was a great reading year. I read 118 books. I've split my favourite reads this year so this is my top 12 crime thriller books and my favourite romance reads are here.  There are some from my trusty favourite authors but I also discovered some new favourites.

October 2023 Kindle Offers

Okay, this took me way longer than I planned but it's finally done. I thought I would do a roundup of the Kindle books that Amazon has on offer this month that I recommend. There are a couple in here that I either own and haven't read yet or that I plan on buying. There's a pretty good selection on offer this month which is why this post took me so damn long. There were some more that I see recommended all the time, so definitely go have a browse, but these are the ones that I've read or bought.

Dark Angel and Shadow Angel by D.K Hood Book Tour

This is a new series by D.K Hood. It’s a spin-off from the Kane & Alton series with new lead characters, as well as appearances from some characters we already know. The book is set in a small mining town, Rattlesnake Creek with ME Shane Wolfe and FBI agents Jo Wells & Ty Carter just a short helicopter ride away. Special Agent Beth Katz is an FBI agent with a big secret. She also happens to be a vigilante serial killer using her job to find any trash that needs taking out. She's been sent to Rattlesnake Creek to work with loner Dax Styles and it might be the best thing that's happened to her dark side.

2022 Favourite Books

I kind of abandoned my blog in the last year but I thought I’d finally sit down and write something. Now I’m never on time with these posts but this may be the latest I have ever done a favourite books I read last year post. So in 2022, I read a grand total of 106 books. I think that is the most I’ve ever read and I really enjoyed it. I made a conscious decision to spend less time scrolling and more time reading and I got to read so many good books. I also mixed it up this year and started incorporating more romance into my reading pile. It makes a nice change from the grizzly murders I usually read. I obviously still love those too. It was definitely a struggle to narrow down my favourites so I opted for 6 crime/thrillers and 6 romance.

Non Gory Crime Thrillers

If you know me you know I love a good crime thriller. It makes up probably 90% of what I read. I'm always being asked for recommendations but I know that some people are put off because they don't want to read any gory details. Sometimes you just want the suspense and to be creeped out without reading grisly murder details. So I thought I'd put together a list of some of my favourite thrillers that don't feature the blood and guts.

Favourite Books Read in 2021

Well what a surprise, this post is extremely late. I'm determined that 2022 is the year I get my shit together with blogging. So I thought I'd start with sharing my favourite books that I read in 2021. I read a lot last year and enjoyed it so much that I smashed my reading challenge of 80 books and finished the year on 90. Narrowing down 90 books to my top 12 was extremely hard but here are my faves. As usual, they are all filled with murder.

Read In Jan 2021

I didn't know whether to bring back my monthly roundups of books I've read but it's such a good way of keeping track of what I've read (I am also on Goodreads though). My mum also uses it to work out what to read next so I guess it's here to stay. I've started off the year well with 6 books under my belt so hoping to keep it up and smash my goal of 80 books this year (you can check out my faves from last year as well). Anyway, here's what I read last month. As usual, they are all murder related.

Top Books of 2020

I was hoping that all this extra time we had in 2020 would mean that I could read more but alas it didn't happen. Between moving back in with my parents to a houseful of people and a building site, getting a horse and the general poor concentration of a pandemic I didn't quite reach my reading goal. I had a good go though. I managed to read 66 books out of the 80 I planned. 4 short of 2019's achievement (You can see my favourites from then here). So I've set it at 80 again and we'll see how we go. In the meantime, I thought I'd share my favourite books of the year with you. In no particular order, we have

The Blood On My Hands - True Crime Autobiography

I don't tend to read much true crime, instead opting for the fictional world of crime with witty, lovable detectives and crimes that seem a bit far fetched. However, a while ago (sorry Shannon & Kelsey for the super long delay) I was asked if I wanted to read Shannon's story and I was definitely intrigued. I think we can all forget that serial killers have families that are affected.

The Blood On My Handsis an autobiography written by Shannon O'Leary telling us what it was like growing up in the same house as a serial killer and terrifying abuser.

Two books titled The Blood on my hands and Out of the Fire and into the pan are being held in front of a green hedge,

Favourite Books of 2019

In usual Beth style, this post is extremely late. However, it is perfect timing if you are looking for something to read during the lockdown. All of these books bar one are crime thrillers so if you are looking for gruesome murder to distract you then I highly recommend checking these out.

Read in September 2019 Part 2

Will I ever get these What I read posts out on time? Probably not. Anyway here's part 2 of all the books I read in September including one of the best Crime books I have read this month. You can check out Part 1 to read about the cutest YA book with my favourite plus size character I've ever read, a book celebrating fat creators as well as my usual crime reads.

Read in September 2019 Part 1

I am so happy with how much I have managed to read this year. I'm on track to smash my Goodreads goal. How are you guys getting on with your reading goals? Did you set any? I didn't even realise I had read 7 books this month. We have a mix of YA and Non-fiction as well as my usual crime thrillers this month. I've really been enjoying reading more non-fiction this year. You can check out Part 2 here

Read in August 2019 Part 2

If you read Part 1 then you will know that I managed to read 10 whole books in August. I'm still weirdly proud of that. Part 2 should include 2 non-fiction books as well but I'm still trying to gather my thoughts in order to write a review so I will get back to you on them. I also apologise for how horrendously late this post is. Will I ever get my shit together? Probably not.

Read in August 2019 Part 1

I am smashing this whole reading thing at the moment. I have finished 10 books this month. Ten whole books. TEN. I have never read this much and I am loving it. I've even managed to watch tv as well. I've been watching Euphoria and I'm halfway through and still not sure how I feel about it. It's intense. Have you seen it? What are your thoughts? Anyway, as usual, I've split this months reads into 2 posts so as not to be too long and here's part 1. It's a bit of a mixed bag.

Read in July 2019 Part 2

As mentioned in Part 1, I have been on a bit of a roll with my reading recently. I managed to read 8 books in July hence why it is split into 2 posts. I have also had a mix of fiction and non-fiction. I know straying from my grizzly murders has been a bit of a shock to me too but I have enjoyed it. Still can't beat a gruesome who done it though.

The Last Widow by Karin Slaughter*

Read in July 2019 Part 1

I am on a roll with reading at the moment, not so much with the blog post writing. Will this month be the one that I get my shit together? Who knows. Last month was great for reading. I managed to read 7 books (you can see them here in part 1 & part 2). This month I managed to beat that by reading 8. I haven't read this much in a long time and it feels so good. I have also taken a load of photos today so hopefully, I will have some actual content other than what I have been reading this month.

Read in June 2019 Part 2

As mentioned in Part 1 I managed to read a fair few books this month. The month finished on a bit of a downer though with 2 not so great books. I was particularly disappointed by the Karin Slaughter one because I normally absolutely adore her books. I always find when I read a couple of duds that I lose my motivation. Here's hoping I can keep the momentum going in July.

Stolen by Paul Finch* - #3 DC Lucy Clayburn - 5/5

Read in June 2019 Part 1

June was an incredible reading month for me. I read 7 books. That's more than I've read in a month for a very long time. Here's hoping I catch up soon so that I can smash my Goodreads challenge. As usual, I've split this into 2 parts so that it isn't horrendously long.

Read In May 2019 Part 2

So this post is definitely later than I anticipated. If anyone has seen my motivation can they please send it back my way. On the plus side, my read in June posts is going to be big. I think I'm up to 7 books so far. Anyway, this is part 2 of May and you can check out Part 1 here. Is there anything better than finding a new author with an addictive series?
