Read in February 2019

February was a tough month for me. I didn't feel great for a lot of it as I've been really struggling with fatigue and pain. This has resulted in a lack of concentration and the need for a lot of naps. I still managed to read 3 books though so I'm classing that as a win. I have also caught up with Greys Anatomy and worked my way through some of my Netflix watchlist.

kindle fire with the last lullaby cover showing. Its resting on a pink chunky knit blanket next to 3 roses

Last Lullaby by Carol Wyer* - 3/5

I was gifted a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

Adam finds his wife's body with the word Why written in her blood on the wall. Luckily her baby is left unharmed. Everyone in Charlotte's life seems to be hiding something but every suspect Natalie finds has an alibi. When another murder happens they end up with even fewer answers.

I don’t know what it was about this book but I didn’t really enjoy it. I found it was a tad too long and some parts just seemed to drag. The ending was then rushed and over in a flash. I did enjoy the story and I was kept guessing with all the shady suspects. A lot of people loved it and I can’t put my finger on why I didn’t but I found reading it a bit of a chore and I didn’t look forward to picking it up. It picked up towards the end though.

Black Creek White Lies Book resting on a pink chunky knit blanket next to 3 roses

Black Creek White Lies by Murray Bailey* - 4/5

I was gifted a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

18 months after being wrongly accused of missing girl Jades murder Dan returns home to try and rebuild his life. That’s easier said than done though when the locals won't let him forget and still blame him. Dan is soon drawn back in and decides to get to the bottom of Jade's disappearance himself with the help of his ex-girlfriend.

This isn’t my usual kind of mystery book as I tend to be sucked in by the gross and gory murders. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the change. I had no idea where the story was leading or who the hell was responsible for any of it let alone who could be trusted. When a girl from the past is brought up I couldn't work out how it was connected but it all comes together in the end. It’s not an overly fast paced book but it kept me hooked and I was desperate to get some answers and find out what had happened.

It’s written well and I loved the characters. Some of the descriptions of places etc were a bit long winded but I would definitely read more from Murray.

kindle fire with the I'll Find You cover showing. Its resting on a pink chunky knit blanket next to 3 roses

I’ll Find You by Liz Lawler* - 5/5

I was gifted a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

Emily's sister went missing a year ago and she still holds out hope that she’ll be found alive but the search has taken a toll on her mental health. She goes in for a minor op in the hospital she works at and wakes up in the night to see Doctors trying to resuscitate the woman in the bed next to her. In the morning she’s told she imagined it and no one was ever there. When she returns to work she is convinced that her colleagues are lying to her. If they are what did they do to that poor woman? But what if she’s wrong and she’s just projecting the loss of her sister?

I absolutely adore Liz Lawler and her first book Don’t Wake Up was one of my 2018 favourites. She really knows how to keep you guessing and make you question everything. I read this in a day because I could not put it down.

It’s told from several POVs which did nothing to help me work out who was telling the truth and who I could believe. I questioned everything, especially Emily. I guessed some of it but I did not see the ending coming. Such a sinister twist.

If you love psychological thrillers then I highly recommend checking out Liz Lawler and I look forward to reading more of her work.

What have you been reading?
